Let’s be honest; we’ve all been in quarantine wayyy too long and it’s time to start changing up our hairdos. Do some experimenting and see what you like! Let’s be clear, I did NOT invent any of these hairstyles. In fact, I haven’t touched a few of these since I was five, or like ever, for that matter. But in the year where it seems almost every hair trend is in, let’s have some fun. And I mean EVERY hair trend. Like… My boyfriend has a mullet.
Beach Waves
Ol’ Reliable. My $23.99 wave iron was one of my favorite purchases of the past year. Crazy, fun, and undeniably s*xy hair is a solid choice if you’re looking for a change. You seriously cannot go wrong with this one. It’s subtle yet head-turning and lasts three whole days. The volume it gives is the look I’ve been trying to find in different hairsprays and mousses for years! Not going to lie, I had to work a little on this one though. It definitely was not a “one and done” trial kind of deal. It took me a few times to get it right, but let me tell you.. It’s worth the hype. Once you master the skill, you’re golden. My curler better make some room on my vanity because this is my new go- to style tool.
Claw Clip
The bigger the better babes. Let me just tell you I loved this extra large claw clip so much that I went back and bought ten. Yes, literally ten. Could it get any easier? Besides being bulkier than a hair tie, these are the PERFECT hair accessory. It helps prevent breakage by gathering your hair loosely as opposed to a tight ponytail. An instant messy updo to elevate any look. I clip one of these to the shoulder strap of my purse every time I leave the house. They’ve quickly become one of my staple accessories.
Slick Bun
Calling all Hailey Bieber fans! Let me tell you about this little trick I keep in my back pocket for when my hair NEEDS a good wash but I want to hold off just ONE more day. The perfect fix for last minute plans, or when I just want to look put together when I truly feel like a greaseball. HAIR GEL. Get some hair gel right now. It’s one of the most affordable hair products you can pick up at any store. Not to mention, no heat damage! A win-win.
Bandana
Add a little bit of… *spice*. Bandanas are another great way to start experimenting with hair without getting too daring. I’ve seen these all over Pinterest recently. They’re vintage. They’re CHEAP. And they’re trendy. They’ve been around the block once or twice. If you want to be traditional, pick up a paisley basic at Walmart. They sell every color in-store for $1.50 tops. If you want to be trendy, silk is super in right now. Either way, they’re the perfect accessory to complete a casual look with denim and a tee.
Pigtails
I find this one hilarious. Just because I KNOW half you girls are cringing, and the other half are absolutely loving it. I don’t have to go too in depth here, you can’t lie to me. I know you’ve had pigtails before. MAYBE ten years ago or more, but it happened. What can I say? They can be flirty and cute, that’s a fact. I think it’s the art of how you style them. For me, I like them relaxed and pulled back like this with front pieces.
Bubble Pony
Another throwback. The bubble pony. I don’t think this one will be in my regular rotation, however it is another saving grace when you’re in a pinch. Any hairstyle that can save you some time is right up my alley. I also felt like this was super chic pulled at the crown of the head. To my girls with layers, this might get a little tricky, but definitely doable with a few tweaks here and there.
Baby Front Braids
COME ON. They’re so cute. Another hairstyle that isn’t too scaled up from your regular look, but gives you a little extra pep in your step. My braids were so tiny I didn’t need any sort of hair tie. If you want to make sure they’re secure, I’d recommend using little clear polybands. I think this looks the best styled with straight hair, but as always, whatever you’re feeling.
